Exploring LGBTQ+ Friendly Activities and Destinations in Los Cabos: An Insider's Guide

Updated: Mar 3

Los Cabos has certainly become one of my favorite destinations and one that I will continue to recommend to my queer family with ease. With up to 350 days of sunshine every year the two major towns of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo has something for every travel style, from active adventure to wellness focused getaways. As a queer traveler it has become even more important to explore and visit destinations that are committed to inclusiveness and the different types of travelers that may visit. I am proud to say that Los Cabos has demonstrated a commitment to becoming a welcoming destination for the LGBTQ+ traveler.

During Pride Month this past June, I had the honor of joining several travel industry professionals, media, influencers, and suppliers for the LGBT Travel Symposium. It was a full week filled with networking, learning, and exploring so much of what Los Cabos has to offer. I had the opportunity to discuss intersectionality in the LGBTQ+ community and marketing to the rainbow family with some amazing peers. Special shout out to Out There Magazine, Los Cabos Tourism Board, Queer Destinations, GayCabo, and so many others who made the week extra special!

Now let’s get into why Los Cabos should be on your radar!

Located at the southernmost point of the Baja California Peninsula is a stunning resort town that combines the best of Mexican culture with stunning seaside escapes. Just a quick flight from the US will land you in a tropical paradise surrounded by brilliant blue waters. From the beaches to the desert, Los Cabos seems to have it all.

Where To Stay

The options are many. From family-friendly to adults only, boutique to luxury all-inclusive, and villas the choice is yours. I had the opportunity to visit many properties while in town and one of my favorites included the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal featuring a beautiful cliffside location in a gated community where you enter through a private tunnel to begin your luxury experience.

A piece of my heart was left at Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve located in San Jose del Cabo. This part of Los Cabos is full of Mexican culture, art, and history. You will feel at home here with a beautiful golf course nearby. This property was ranked as the #1 Resort in Western Mexico by Conde Naste Traveler’s 2021 Readers’ Choice Awards.

To be near the heart of downtown in Cabo San Lucas head to Corazon Cabo Resort & Spa along Medano Beach and within walking distance to the Marina. Head to the rooftop lounge for panoramic views, a rooftop pool, and DJ sets to help you dance the night away.

What To Do

The bustling marina is a hub for adventure seekers, foodies, and shoppers visiting Cabo San Lucas. From the marina, you can leave on whale-watching tours, kayaking excursions, and luxury boat trips. Oceanfront eateries serving ceviche and tacos sit beside lively bars on a spacious boardwalk. The high-end boutiques and casual stores are a great place to go to beat the heat!

Hit the water! Los Cabos has 22 swimmable Blue Flag beaches to explore throughout the area.

Explore the vibrant culture of Los Cabos with a trip to the art district in San Jose del Cabo. Gallery openings, artists in attendance sessions, and live performances, are just a few of the things you can expect when you walk down the street. There are also plenty of hip wine bars and delicious farm-to-table restaurants lining the lively streets for a fun evening out on the town!

Where To Eat

Bold flavors and exciting spices can be found everywhere, from street vendors to five-star restaurants. While Mexican street food usually takes center stage, the fine dining options in Los Cabos, are worth making a trip for. Fresh seafood caught daily, regional desserts, and unique interpretations of the classics topped off with outstanding service are just a few things to expect from Los Cabos' many restaurants.

Enjoy a mouthwatering, authentic dinner in Los Cabos with a stunning view of the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Notable restaurant recommendations include Los Tres Gallos serving up authentic Mexican dishes while Don Sanchez Restaurant offers a unique gourmet experience using fresh local products and ingredients with a contemporary flair.

Why you should visit?

Did you know that 18% of visitors to Los Cabos are LGBTQ+ travelers? And 43% identify as women! The beaches, landscapes, and restaurants are top reasons for visiting.*

Los Cabos is the first destination in the world to receive the Queer Destinations Committed Distinction. This recognition allows LGBTQ+ visitors the opportunity to choose from a variety of accredited properties and service providers that have met the highest standards of safety, service, and excellence to the community.
